What an historic celebration! A black brother will lead our nation!.... But what great expectations at his cultish coronation!

Historic celebration! A black brother leads our nation! But what great expectations & cultish coronation!

Letter to Newsweek, 1/22/09:  Being a part-time cartoonist, the best way to express my inaugural feelings is in my art. But in a few words…

As an American I was proud, as a human I was thrilled, as a Christian I was blessed to witness the election of our first black president!  Unlike my liberal friends, who are loath to celebrate the magnificent ascension of Sec. Condi, Judge Clarence and sometimes Col. Colin, I can praise brother Barack’s life, though disagreeing with his policies! Yes, it was a day of grateful tears, but also a day of fears.  As a conservative, I was of course discouraged. Would it be racist to say: he’s just the wrong black guy? No, it’s not about pigmentation, but politics. I rejoice in the color of his skin, the content of his character and the triumph of our democracy, but I’m fearful of the cult-like adoration of his administration, and the unwise decisions that may be coming.

But there’s hope. Despite a socialist leaning, he’ll be learning. He’ll learn that campaigning is not governing and Compromise is the communion wine of Washington. God only knows, despite owning all 3 branches of government, and the fourth: The Dept.of Media, he may not push as many liberal causes as he talked.  Examples? He may not be a Zionist, but he may learn we desperately need our best ally in the mideast. He may not be a militarist, but he may learn we can’t weaken our military with socio-sexual experiments or total surrender in Iraq.

So would it be exclusionary to say: not in Obama, but in God we trust?…as we pray hard for our nation and our iconic president. -David Eden
